Mechanical Engineer
Description
C.E. Niehoff & Co. is a manufacturer of heavy duty high output alternators for military and other specialty applications. Our headquarters and manufacturing site is located in Evanston, IL, and we employ approximately 350 employees.
We currently have openings in our Engineering Department for a Mechanical Engineer. Successful candidate must be detail oriented, have good communication skills and be able to work in a fast paced, multitasking environment.
Primary Responsibilities/Expectations
• Interact directly with the customer.
• Perform calculations, development, design and testing of prototype systems.
• Apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and materials.
• Design sand cast, die cast, molded, stamped, formed and machined parts and interact with suppliers to optimize designs and address manufacturing issues.
• Assure product quality by designing to meet test requirements and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
• Test for compliance with adopted engineering standards and good engineering practices including MIL-STD, ASTM, SAE or customer-specific standards.
• Transition products from prototype to production environment.
• Perform installation reviews, on-vehicle testing and troubleshooting.
• Active participation in design reviews, failure analyses and continuous product improvement.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 3D CAD experience required.
• 2 years’ experience minimum.
• Experience relevant to the manufacturing environment is desired.
• Knowledge of sand, die casting and molded part design is a plus.
• Experience with rotating machinery or automotive applications are a plus.
• Outstanding mechanical aptitude and knowledge including hands-on experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and maintain project deadlines.
